Welcome to “Best Weekend Bets” #53.
Yep.
We’ve been at this column for 53 weeks now.
And yet, somehow, SOMEHOW, we have not died yet.
But with the weekend ahead we can make no promises.
Libby is in Seattle, Cale is en route to LA and so I am left (wo)manning the ship, so God help us all.
OK, first some music to set the tone with:
Thursday
Fort Reno is ending.
And after weeks of TBD on the calendar we now know what they are wrapping things with and that is: Jet Age, Yell County, and John Davis’ post-Q and Not U, post-Georgie James new band, Title Track. If you are a certain kind of a DC music fan (and you know who you are), you won’t miss it.
Thao and Pepi Ginsberg are playing The Cat mainstage and if I could take you by your hand and walk you into that show, I would. Terrifically talented, terrifically sweet girls. Everyone wins with this one.
And over in Adams Morgan, SHORTS (pt. IIIIII) is rolling in, so expect: NSFW photos on BYT tomorrow and a world premiere of the miracle that is EXACTLY.
Sold Out Hold Steady…we never even knew you.
OH,OH…and a tentatively amazing show at Velvet that runs the risk of being underappreciated.
Friday
3 raging options:
-Feral Kids/ The Dance Party/ Via Audio take over RNR hotel
-A Mexican Elvis takes over The Cat
-and a party goes on forever and ever at the Trinidad & Tobago Association (win some tickets here)
There should be very little interest crossover with these 3 so, you’re all safe.
Saturday
I feel, for the first time in forever it IS all about dancing.
The Faint & Jaguar Love are at 930 club (win some tickets here) with a very special (and free with free booze) afterparty thrown by Will Eastman / BYT & Filter @ Civilian Arts Project. You know how we roll with those.
If you are not into free dancing and free drinking, we do recommend KICKS at the Cat (which IS free, and the drinks may very well be if you know the right people) or PULSE @ BeBar.
Also-Titus Andronicus is playing the Red & The Black. You probably almost did not know that.
And-Jeff is crashing a car.
Because he can.
Sunday
I am recommending the Bodies of Water / Port O’Brien show @ The Cat Backstage (exclusive interviews and whatnot coming tomorrow) with all my body and soul but during daytime go, go, go see “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” the preview for which, every time I see it, fuels all the sex-tourism fantasies I never even knew I had. But I definitely do have now.
Now tell me what I missed.
Sophie Ellis Bextor + the Faint in one thread = i heart byt
