And here we are again. Like a week did not even pass.
The weekend is before us and while I am possibly sort of out of the loop now because all I do is sleep and sniffle, I do have some ideas for you. Proceed with caution:
Thursday
It is not painfully hot today so Ft. Reno seems like a good idea, though it may rain. Regardless, read J.Forte’s “A to Z of DC love” and regale.
Afterwards, watch Project Runway on DVR and throw knives at the TV.
Nothing major is going on otherwise (though this photo show @ Dahlak looks cool), so I think it will be a very good night for Top Ranking. I can smell it.
Friday
OK, so while still perky from not destroying yourself on Thursday (for a change) embrace the weekend full speed. Catch “Shaolin Soccer” for free at 7 and then… If you’re feeling adventurous head over to Loda (Silver Spring=adventure, apparently) where you get Disco City AND Nouveau Riche together for a bargain price of 5 bucks. Unless, of course, you win the free tickets in which case, well, its free.
Pretty amazing show with Apes, Fiasco and Double Dagger goes down at Comet and just over the bridge Apparitions and These United States do the first of their 2 day IOTA take-over.
Both shows come with flying BYT recommendation colors.
Saturday
I guess at this point you’re going to the Virgin Fest, or the DC Comedy fest or….or watching the Olympics or something.
In other news, RNR Hotel is celebrating its 2 year anniversary also:
On schedule downstairs: Rattler, Black&White Jacksons, New Rock Church of Fire=Face Melting Personified (win some tickets here)
?On schedule Upstairs: US! Cale, William and Autorock host a free dance party and since I am walking 60 miles for breast cancer research in October we are making it a breast cancer benefit to boot.
The deal (in Cale’s oh-so-subtle words):
DANCE PARTY 2000
with lasers and smoke machines
(rotating DJ sets 8:30pm-close)
FREE | 21+
$1 PBR till 12am - Drink beer for boobs!
10% of the upstairs bar sales will go directly to Svetlana’s (possibly tragic) attempt at The Breast Cancer 3-Day. This is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days with net proceeds going to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment
Recovering alcoholic? We’ll also be selling cupcakes.
Fat? Then just donate here:
Hate us? Hate good causes? Are out of town? Just want to see a movie dammit?
If you’re in Baltimore, go to this.
If you’re into Goonies (and…lets face it-who isn’t?) go to this.
Sunday
Wake up with a strange beer bong in your bed.
Detox.
Eat some fries at the new Commonwealth Gastropub and then comment on it. Everyone else already has.
Save some energy for Grizzly Bear on Monday.
The DC Comedy Fest is this weekend too… Todd Berry at the Synagogue. C’mon, who doesn’t want to see/do the doggie bounce?
August 8, 2008 at 9:09 amDon’t forget that in Baltimore, the best party-throwers of three cities are doing a FREE party on Saturday with DJ sets from Bloc Party and the Rapture, Dave P, Dave Nada, the TaxLo DJs, Will Eastman, Emily Rabbit, and lots of other goodness. It’s at Sonar. Holler at it!
August 8, 2008 at 1:16 pmSvet, you should just run the 60m as an ultramarathon, then you have two whole days off!
