Best Weekend Bets

Best Weekend Bets

May 8, 2008 by Svetlana Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

Welcome to my Thursday: after deciding (post Teenagers show and jukebox interpretative dancing and pizza eating and cab sharing) that I’d rather watch Top Chef on DVR than write anything for today’s BYT, I proceeded to oversleep, have Photoshop and CAD break down on me at work, lose 4 hours of some serious rendering and detailing work and then be rained upon on my way to get lunch.

Plus, Cale is nowhere to be found, and I am pretty sure Libby died after last night’s marathon bonanza (she was on life support after the party, as is).

So, my state of mind is not really conducive to BEST WEEKEND BETTING BUT….HEY! its gonna get done (i am also majorly procrastinating on recapturing those 4 hours of lost drafting work)

So, here goes (in addition to already discussed Baltimore Options, everyone hug Greg now!)

Thursday

The James Bond festival kicks off today but ITS RAINING (of course) so see a free movie somewhere dry instead.

Also on the agenda: The juggernaut that is SHORTS pt. 3 drops by Asylum again.(recaps of previous shorts are here and here and here).
Shave your legs.
Hide your boyfriend’s man tank.
Moisturize.
Mentally prepare yourself for a lot of sweat on sweat.

And two good shows: Rosebuds/ British Sea Power and Jeffrey Lewis at the Cat and Cave Singers/Love as Laughter/Bellman Barker at RNR.

Maybe someone gets engaged at one of them tonight.
It has happened before.

Friday

Artomatic opens y’all.

Everyone and their mother is participating.
So go.
Support.

Alternatively, haul ass to Baltimore or to Silver Spring or to Bethesda
I am probably too lazy to do any of those three in which case THE POINTS SHOW IS ALWAYS A GOOD/SAFE/AWESOME BET as are cheap champagne cocktails

Saturday

While the Pippi Longstocking fest at House of Sweden and Rock’n'Romp make me wish I was ten again, for grown ups out to do a good thing in the middle of the day Velvet Lounge is hosting a Benefit for Veterans with Disabilities at 2pm. Do the right thing.

At night, how does this sound for a surefire win itinerary:

2 shows I think will be rad:
Koko/New York Times/Nerd Parade at Velvet (check out our NYT piece here) and a hard core bonanza at The Bobby Fisher Memorial.

2 dance nights that I KNOW will be rad:

The always always always great Transatlantic (wet your appetite with some Cory mixes here)

and this monster of a (FREE) night upstairs at RNR hotel: Gavin, Blaqstarr AND Scottie B take over.

Heads flying.
Afterparties a go go.
Chances of having your photo taken while shirtless: 95% (110 percent if your name is Cole Sharp)
Chances of making out: 114%

Sunday

Its Mother’s day!
Flowers, candy and having unprotected sex to celebrate the joys of parenting are all in order!

Plus, you know, this little show at Nissan Pavillion.

TELL ME WHAT I MISSED.

Monday is still officially part of the weekend which is why everyone who likes punk rock and weirdness should come to Galaxy Hut on Monday to peep this band that I may be part of in some capacity.

Is anyone else getting really suckered and going to the Cure at Patriot Center? I seriously just can’t resist Robert Smith. I will be hauling ass back to Blaqstarr though in Bmore.

That’s sad. When I saw the Cure at HFStival, I thought they really nailed it. I hope Friday is good.
