While I personally am of the opinion that this weekend would be best spent just mentally (and physically resting) and prepping for the miracle that our relaunch party will be NEXT SATURDAY I am fully aware that you need to pass your time SOMEHOW TILL THEN.
So, here, in easy, peasy steps, sure fire fun for the 3 days ahead.
But a few notes first:
1. There are still TONS OF TICKETS TO BE WON for shows happening this weekend. Because while fun IS fun, FREE fun is, somehow, always MORE FUN.
2. Speaking of which, a bunch of beauts in this week’s free cinematic guide
and if DC is starting to feel a little too claustrophobic
3. Everyone make sure to thank Greg for his weekly Baltimore re-up a tangent column YOU CAN ACTUALLY USE. Not to mention that you can score more MP3s and get more weekend homework done if you went and read our premiere Audio Preview of the Week feature
Now, for fun and frolic ahead

Thursday
DC Film Fest Opens.
It is the last night you can see Contempt at AFI.
A date, according to Jesse Bishop, who knows about those things, is “DINNER AND A CULTURAL EVENT”
Use the afore mentioned two opportunities and take someone out.
Buy tickets in advance.
They’ll be impressed.
If at AFI, eat at Mandalay beforehand.
Order the margaritas.
They’re as big as fountains.
If you’re not in a “dinner and a cultural event” mood, but more on the “drinks and more drinks” mood, the roof at ESL should be open, so stop by after work while someone plays some Minnie Ripperton and Sally Shapiro for you.
Then proceed to take yourself to Modernist society at Bourbon, check out the screening of “A/K/A Tommy Chong” while hanging out with its author, Josh Gilbert (and Neal, and Jason and Daryle) and drink their many drink specials. In abandon.
Shows wise, totally BYT recommended is the Ravens and Chimes / French Kicks double bill at RNR. (ravens listening party here, french kicks interview here, for homework purposes).
Friday
The sun is shining.
The birds are singing.
And everything is full of joy.
Its also casual Friday so if you’re a girl, wear something sleeveless.
If you’re a dude, NEVER wear anything sleeveless.
PLEASE.
Some good shows Friday.
I say.
Dan Bejar, who, in my humble (yet oddly, always correct) opinion is a genius, and his solo Destroyer project are at the Cat. Sweat and tears abound. (plus- KICKS! is downstairs. No dance night goes better with whiskey in this whole town.)
Holding up the local end of the Friday bargain Telograph/Death by Sexy/A Sides/Len Bias juggernaut hits RNR hotel. RNR Hotel runs out of PBR by 11 (guestimation) and a nice little combo of music and lights and live bands (Lode RUnner) and DJs (ED Dudes and Scott from LR) hit up Selam for the premiere edition VELODROME.
Just across the street kids go nuts at FATBACK @ Dahlack.
Not a body unsweaty all night.
Gross.
But wonderful.
Saturday
Make use of daytime.
Ride a bike.
Drink a margarita swirl during daytime at Lauriol Plaza (daytime being the only time to go there, since its bridge and tunnel nastiness all around there at night the second the weather turns warm)
Buy some fresh flowers.
Make someone buy you some fresh flowers.
OR-If you wanna help us, and have a couch you wanna get rid of, email us at info@brightestyoungthings.com (not kidding!) and we will come pick it up and take it to our party space for next Saturday.
Bonus karma points included in the deal.
At night, relive your mother’s golden hairstyle age with the B-52s at 930 club or decide to say “fuck it” to over priced shows and have your face and brain melted by Jay Reatard at The Cat.

And of course, it is the last Saturday of the month so the Nouveau Riche at DC9 (freshly named by City Paper “best dance night in DC” and forever endorsed by us and every naked, rafter hanging kid in town) and BLISS at The Cat (which has not had a off night IN FOREVER) friendly rivalry continues.
Cale would also chime in and recommend Mass Appeal with Autorock (Free and Fun at RNR) right now, and listening to his newest stuffs I would agree. Go Adam!
There’s enough dancing youth to go around.
Trust me.

Sunday
See a matinee. Featuring full male frontal nudity, preferably
Juno is out on DVD. Buy it (totally a solid investment). Watch it with your Dad. Watch your Dad cry. Feel innately that your Dad really wants grandchildren so awkwardly start drinking mid-day to take the tension away. Make your Dad drink too.
BBQ. But only with people you like
Full stop.
Food coma nap time.
If you DO wake up, mosey over to see Elbow.
If not, no harm no foul.
There is alway next week
Now, if I missed stuff, you’ll let me know, won’t you?
Not to mention that the calendar itself contains approximately 1000 more options, and that is even BEFORE we add the art parties in today.
Not one, but TWO photos of Jesse Bishop.
It’s a sign!
Jay Reatard looks like what would result from Jesse Bishop and the singer from the dance party having a kid.

April 25, 2008 at 9:19 pmfor the record I really, really hate the concept of hiking.
mainly because it involves people who don’t walk every day driving out into the wilderness TO WALK.
same reason I hate the gym.

Not so fast! If you’re Chris Burns you can wear sleeveless.
