Yesterday, Cale went to Joe's crab shack and they brought him his bucket of crabs but it was the wrong kind so they brought him a second bucket and he ate both.
Today we're all going to go on a boat and hope for the best (p.s. presale ended at 2 but a certain amount of tickets will be available at the door too, cash only, spread the word)
So, on that note, lets dedicate this edition of Best Weekend Bets to the best worst water themed movie of all time, Kevin Costner's Waterworld. (also starring an eyepatched Dennis Hopper who really makes it all worth it, when you think about it)
Hope you're feeling gilly.
As always, before you read what's below check out the Art Itinerary and Free movies guide and because, you know, it's useful.
Ok-off we go now.
THURSDAY
- We have a boat party, it will be awesome, come to it. Boarding starts at 7, don't be late, boat WILL leave at 8.
Providing you're seasick or suck (seasuck?) other options include:
- multiple shows by Soundtrack of Our Lives
- and Laura Veirs @ Iota (a lover of water herself)
after all is over lets (boat will be back by 11pm, so the night is only beginning, you could argue) all go to St.EX and/or Napoleon and get even more drunk
Take no prisoners:
FRIDAY
is painfully full of options.
Stop by Room 11, have one of those orange dark chocolate old fashioneds, they're delicious.
Then...
- No Scrubs, against all odds, is the coolest uncool dance party in DC so if you're into screaming along to TLC and Britney, head to 930 club.
That aside, support local talent:
- New Rock Church of Fire and Greenland are at IOTA
- Caverns release their CD at COMET
- HUME members do an in-store at Red Onion
- and Crab's claw has another one of their house shows
- + Kohoutek and Teo Angell are at the Cherch, doing what they were supposed to initially do during the snow storm.
SATURDAY
- NERD NIGHT (which sold out last time so...) is back at DC9
- Activation 2719 actually happens tonight after the 2nd rescheduling, same goes for the Cutthroat opening @ Art Whino
- If you have not had enough coolest house shows, check out DINOWALRUS, True Womahood, Hume and Laughing Man @ The Cherch
- Franz Nicolay brings his baroqueish cabaret to DC9
- Todd Barry does the funny @ Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse
- Providing you're into bigger shows, Mission of Burma is at the Cat and Nouvelle Vague is at 930 club. Both should be excellent, if for completely different reasons.
- and everyone ends up raging till God only knows when at WILD NORTH.
This much stuff going on may actually mean Fatback may not be super jammed up, so you and your dance moves should make the most of it.
SUNDAY
You're exhausted-admit it to yourself. However, Editors AND Leslie and The Lys are in town, and we all know they both do kick ass live shows so... the choice is yours.
Other weekend goals: watch "how i met your mother" for at least 3 hours straight, read vanity fair's young hollywood issue, set someone up on a blind date, make pancakes, stay warm, learn how to iron clothes the right way, cut your own bangs, watch kevin costner in better movies ("bull durham" is still terrific and i think "robin hood" may be worth revisiting in the light of that completely pointless remake coming up), brave "shutter island", and maybe some other stuff.
And be careful who you wave at:
Now you tell me what we missed, information sharing is the new caring and all.
God loves a cheerful giver.
I do own Waterworld and I did admonish someone for talking during it with "You're RUINING Waterworld!" rather than pausing it, because how can you stop it once it begins?
CRAB FARTS
Don't forget Comet Ping Pong on Saturday night! Wolf and Lamb is not to be missed!!
Saturday, February 20, 2010, that is...
DC up-and-comers Lion Daddy are playing at The Red & the Black on Saturday! You check them out and get a free album download at www.anoceanofnoise.com
you mean Daddy Lion?
Lion Daddy would almost be a better name
J. Robbins from Jawbox is also doing a solo acoustic set (!!!) at the Writer's Center in Bethesda for Story/Stereo. For anyone who grew up in DC in the 90s this is kind of a big deal.
