The time has finally come: I get to do a "Face/Off" Best weekend Bets and no one (not even Cale) can do anything about it.
In my opinion there are 2 kind of people in the world: the ones that appreciate the pure cheese genius of the John Woo vehicle in which John Travolta and Nicolas Cage swap out faces (!) and proceed to (super creepily, to a point of hilarity) chew up all the scenery around them, or the ones that don't.
Pick who you are now, and pick wisely.
In the meantime, we have a weekend ahead of us and we better not waste it (Was it just me or did yesterday not see quite as freezing?)
Anyway, before we go anywhere please read our Free movies guide and our Art Itinerary for all your soul feeding purposes.
For partytime, lets see what's on offer:
THURSDAY
Do your bit for Haiti at The Gibson
Cruise for some man love at the Homo Hotel Happy Hour, have your face melted by NRCOF at Velvet Lounge, be soothed by Joan as Police Woman and Carol Bui at the Black Cat and end you night dancing madly to 90s music at Dahlak.
Also-Hampton Yount is moving, so if you want to say BYE, you better book it to Ballston
Assuming a dirty priest persona while you're at it is optional:
FRIDAY
The Mid Atlantic Leather Bonanza opens today. We have a handy guide available for you plus our gay events calendar is brimming with MAL EVENTS. You're welcome.
In other, less nipple pinching, places: lots of gallery openings (see "Art Itinerary") 3 Chord Comedy Happy Hour returns to Velvet (followed by a solid show featuring Foreign Press, Drunk Tigers and Hermit Thrushes who I hope WILL wear dresses on stage)
No matter what, chance are, everyone will end their night/morning raging at WILD NORTH @ 411 Warehouse
Suck someone's tongue (or thumb) (the fact I could only find this clip in Italian makes it, lets admit it, extra creepy and amazing):
SATURDAY
TIMBALAND IS IN TOWN. (followed, in a stroke of booking genius by Bob Mould's Bear friendly dance party "Blow Off")
The end.
Or well, if you're not into Timbaland then here are some other things you could do. And by "some other things" I mean A MILLION THINGS:
Art openings a go go
Fatback turns 2 years old
Chris Burns and Adrian Loving come together for Capricorn Rising
Bluebrain performs at The Fridge
Loose Lips and State Department are at RNR Hotel
there is a benefit show @ Crab's claw
and 10 000 other things in our calendar (my hands are starting to sweat from the volume of typing-just peruse here)
What a predicament:
SUNDAY
It is MLK weekend so presumably you all have another night of good times in you. Which I guess could lead you to either RNR Hotel or TOWN, depending on your persuasion.
After it all, come creepily home to the ones you love (still in Italian! still hilarious!)
Now tell us what we missed, you know you want to:
God loves a cheerful giver.
Face... off? No more drugs for that editrix.
I love face/off. Though I prefer Nick Cage as the bad guy.
Face/Off *clap clap* Face/On *clap clap* Face/Off Face/On ... Nickcagesucks.
(but yes, I do cheeseheart this movie)
