Brightest Young Things

I am not going to lie-growing up as far away from American commercial culture as one could be, my brother and I used to LOVE Kid'n'Play movies. We'd tape them off of TV, watch them, rewatch them, say things like "pajama jammy jam" with the most hilarious accents (which were naturally our own), and make all sorts of unfortunate fashion decisions inspired by the baggy, high waisted choices of our newfound teen idols.
The other week I DVRed "House Party" late at night but "Class Act" remains my favorite: the prince and the pauper/trading places dynamic, the name Duncan Pinderhughes, the hair that reached higher heights in 1992 than anyone in 1990 could have expected...
IMDB tells me that the popularity of these movies is dropping (31% and 27% in the last week, respectively), so I figured I'd do something for the cause and dedicate this edition of BWB to them.

Before we start tho-make sure you check out:
-Marcus' electronic music update
-Danielle's UNcorkedDC drinking guide (which includes a free wine and chocolate party at the Embassy of spain tonight)
-Alex's weekly food news
and
-Wlada's Oktoberfest immersion posts

And now-pending make over, you're ready

There's a new tadpole in town:

THURSDAY
Do some good and go to the Street Sense silent auction.
Also-Andrew Wodzianski's show opens @ Flashpoint.
Then-the Lou Barlow/Dinosaur Jr. combo is pretty much unbeatable and follow that up with a healthy dose of Solo Manouver @ ST.EX or check out the last SHORTS of the season.

If you're in Baltimore-BFFing The Electric Tickle Machine IS A MUST.

Have a double date dance-off

FRIDAY
FRIDAY!
The big party tonight is the NADASTROM EP Release at 411 Warehouse.
That aside-I hope you have tickets to The Dodos/Ruby Suns because these 2 bands are just as awesome as they were last year (which is why it is probably sold out) and MICHAEL CHABON IS IN TOWN.
The fan boy inside of you is overwhelmed, I know.
You could probably even do all 3 of these things (in reverse order) if you plan carefully enough.

Rap Battle time:

SATURDAY
The March for Equality is in full swing so, naturally, Bob Mould is at 930 club and everyone else seems to be taking the dance party route: Feedback, Mousetrap, Peppermint et al. (check the calendar for details-ed)

This may actually not be a bad night to see a movie: The Invention of Lying, Whip It, Betty Blue, Shutter Island...all of this is out, and all of it seems worth the 10 dollars they're expecting you to pay.

Just don't hurt nobody

SUNDAY
Sweet block party time
Rumor has it, Monday is Columbus day, which, I guess, some people have off resulting in a genuine cavalcade of gay dance parties EVERYWHERE: Homo/Sonic at the Cat, Taint at DC9....and so on and so forth.
For those into bands - THE DUSTYs (and The Bravery, I guess) are at 930 club and RNR Hotel crumbles under the indie rock gravitas of Titus Andronicus.
If you miss it, don't worry, we're covering it. As always.

And be careful, because it could all end like this:

Now you tell me what I missed.

God loves a cheerful giver.

Svetlana,

They postponed Shutter Island back in August. As a healthy alternative, you all should see A Serious Man, the latest from the Coen Brothers.
