Brightest Young Things

It has happened again. The forces of the Universe came together and brought you an offering of Wednesday night activities that if you space/plan them out wisely almost obliterates any need for the weekend.

  • You need culture? This Wednesday has it.
  • You need wonderful beverages? This Wednesday has it.
  • You need good music? This Wednesday has it.
  • You need good music to get fucked (up) -no French languages pardoned-to? This Wednesday had is.
  • You want to meet people, make friends, learn something, sleep your way to the top (of something)? Why waste your precious weekend time, when you can do it on a Wednesday? No reason.

With that in mind, here is what to do in chronological order.

  • First up: Leave work, apply extra lipgloss, hair moose, deodorant or whatever it is that you do to make yourself seem more of a functioning human, and head to the Tabbard Inn. Corcoran's month of Artini's is in full swing, and while, based on personal experience from Bourbon and those demented Capri sun pouch martinis that almost killed me, you cannot afford to do this to your body every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of the week, you should make an exception for Chantal Tseng's night. Not only does she (wo)man what I think is the most wonderful bar experience in DC, rooftop rumor has it that tonight's specialty drink is a version of a Julep and since we are all desperate for spring by now, there is nothing better than a Julep today.
  • Then, and no more than 2 drinks in, trust me, leave Tabbard (it will be hard, those couches are so damn comfortable), and go to the Corcoran proper. The National Pecha Kucha is spreading their wings into bigger spaces and hosting tonight's presentation there. 20 people, 20 images each, 20 seconds per image-it is always interesting and tonight's presenter list seems to match the setting: The Dissident Display men are there, Corcoan faculty and students.... RSVP is recommended. So-RSVP.

All of this should be over by 10, so then it is show time:

  • For the more delicate souls there is the very talented AC Newman at the Cat. As Cale said: I mean, Neko and Dan rarely show up at New Pornographers shows so this is pretty much the same thing.
  • For the slightly less delicate souls and those a little more into fake blood in confined spaces we highly recomend the Future Islands/EXACTLY/Thrust Lab shit show that will obliterate Velvet Lounge. All the ladies attempting to sleep their way to the top, or the bottom, please form an orderly line right here.
  • Also, by now, we hope you are walking that thin line between tipsy and well, more than tipsy. You may need to, to survive this.
  • Add to that the Frodus Escape Plan, the WhyDoWeDance Party and the 3rd night of Pogues (though you may not need reminding that you JUST survived St.Patrick's day) and you easily discover you're spoiled for choice.>
  • All the roads will inevitably end up leading to the den of sin that is Chi Cha on Wednesdays at Notoriety, where in the Wakeman/Thornley absentia, Patrick Kigongo is hosting a night which I imagine may sway a little further from the Lee Hazlewood format and venture, possibly, into the Wedding Present land? One can only hope so.

You've been warned.

God loves a cheerful giver.
