So, lets face it - it IS Hockey Wednesday. Washington Post admits it, all those people wearing red I saw while walking to work at 7am this morning admit it, I am even mildly excited about it and last time I was excited about sports was when the former Yugoslavian basketball team was about to CRUSH USA's Dream team in the World Championships and we all ran around the streets of Novi Sad singing along to Goran Bregovic's Kalashnikov while music montages of Divac and Kukoc DUNKING over Reggie Miller were playing. AND THAT WAS LONG TIME A GO.
Just watch Miracle clips on YOUtube all day to amp up.
But no matter how the game ends (and whether you are going) by the time it is over YOU WILL NEED TO DRINK.
ok?
So, here are your, thankfully, pretty goddamn good, options:
- On the early side there is a Dissident display party @ Embassy of Finland that you could squeeze in during the first period, and of course downing 18 - 3 dollar maritinis at Beyond takes the edge off of everything but then:
- THERMALS ARE IN TOWN. Thermals rock SO HARD. SO HARD. Missing Thermals live in your lifetime is like missing the chance to see what rock is about. OK? K.
- SPINAL TAP IS IN TOWN. Well, Christopher Guest and co are in town with an undetermined length running show of their greatest hits from their greatest hits movies. If you like them missing them do this is like missing the chance to see I don't even know what. God himself?
+
Even the "2nd best corner" is pretty sweet tonight what with:
- Rodriguez is in DC along with Donny Hue pimping out his new record (out today on KORA) @ RNR Hotel, with War on Drugs, who we've, in a rare moment of editorial foresight, actually written about before opening
- The first of many Vinyl Waxin' Wax events going down @ Velvet Lounge
and
Fritz and Kathryn holding the solid reigns in at Ipod Jukebox @ ST.EX, the only dance night that lets you play what you want to play for 12 minutes- +Of course, the beast that is Notoriety is STILL out to get you, both before and after the game. Cracked out coke pirates on board and all.
Get ready. I know its been a long week already BUT you have to do this. In the meantime: More Miracle:
God loves a cheerful giver.
