You know, we know. Lady Gaga cancelled, you're now forever boycotting American Idol, it is the middle of the week, and all seems dreary (including the weather), we know.
BUT you have all that spandex you've been accumulating for weeks and that body you finally got into back up dancer shape just in hopes she'd ask you to shimmy next to her tomorrow, and you need to parade yourself somewhere. Anywhere.
Thankfully, in what is becoming the grand tradition of 09, and what may actually cause me start doing "Best weekend bets" on Wednesdays sometimes soon, the middle day of this week has everything you need and then a few things you may actually not be able to fit in to boot.
So, caffeinate and plan:
Not 1, not 2, but 3 pretty good ways to start the night:
- There is an awesome looking Trunk Show/Hella Tuff Launch Happening in Adams Morgan right after work, featuring local designers and a 3 dollar happy hour too boot. FREE.
- Library of Congress is starting their Jazz Movie series tonight @ 7pm with "Jazz Baroness". FREE.
- And as we've said before, Beyond downtempo @ Luna is one of the "best cheap free things" you can do in town.
Now that you've been fed, and satiated your primary thirst, go to some shows:
- Presets and Golden Filter are in town. This is actually possibly even better than what the Lady Gaga show would have been because: a. Presets are pretty much the most epic live band ever and b. Golden filter will actually allow you to add a glittery cape to that spandex you've been dying to wear to 930 club this week and lets face it, more is sometimes more.
- For those who wish to pledge their allegiance to the DC Flag, a very solid local bill of Exit Clov & Black & White Jacksons is at The Cat. Wearing your glittery cape would be at your own risk there though.
And then, after party time. And once again three SOLID GOLD OPTIONS:
- Presets and Golden Filter will be hauling theirs and (maybe) your asses to H Street for their official afterparty @ RNR Hotel but we understand if you think that is kind of too far. We kind of think it is. Why not just go to DC9 like all the other civilized 930 afterparties do?
Closer to home we have:
- FUZZ @ St EX is back tonight with DJ Geologist (from that little band you love-Animal Collective) helping out Neil and Provoke get all psychedelic on a school night
and of course
- The now regular excuse to make bad decisions on a Wednesday: Chi cha @ Notoriety. Now, reliable 2 am sources tell me that this weeks drink specials include: $2 Tequila Shots, $3 Vodka Sodas,
- $4 Red/White Sangria, $4 Blue Moon, $6 Mojitos (and no one in this town makes mojitos the way Chi Cha makes Mojitos-ed), a screening of "Breathless" (which will inevitably make you want to smoke against your best judgement and sit around your bed with no aim as long as someone as hot as Jean Paul Belmondo is there to be aimless with) and songs of this variety:

stay away from anything resembling a capri sun pouch though, if you want to survive the night past 10pm
