Once again, it is mid-week and the mid-week won’t let you stay at home and eat popcorn and watch “Make me a Supermodel”. Oh well.
For what its worth, this season sucks, this is why DVR exists and lets face it you have WAY TOO MANY CUTE HATS to just keep them in your closet. Even if some people may disapprove.
There is some standard lineup switching up: Ipod Jukebox is next week, not this week, Notoriety is not happening (you have 3 guesses as to why), Chris Burns is impromptuing it at St. EX….but, lets start at the beginning.
- Dave Bloom is growing his happy hour lounge empire, but Beyond downtempo is still a staple for all the right reasons: good, cheap food, good, cheap drinks, ideal post-work location and a rotating set of DJs who you actually want to hear.
Now that you are fed and ready, dust that cute hat off and decide on one of the following shows:
- -Neko Case is sold out but if you have tickets, I am so happy for you it is not even funny. Saying that she “can sing” is an understatement, Neko can sing in a way that no one else can. I just always wish it was a seated show so you could hold someone’s hand across the aisle.
- -Comet Gain is in town on a limited comeback tour and this is WHY Ipod Jukebox is next week because Fritz and Kathryn refuse to miss this. Also-Crystal stilts should actually show up and We Fought the Big One DJs are DJing in between sets. Its a post-punk wet dream. Sheer quality of sound wise, this is what we are recommending for tonight, and had Comet gain listening party come through it would have been the feature today. I promise.
- -Having said that, I know where you all will be going, because part of the beauty of the BYT readership is how lovably predictable we can all be sometime: the proverbial skinny jean bomb explodes all over RNR tonight with a line up including Lissy Trullie, US Royalty, SEAS and Garutachi girls DJing in between sets. Dakota has been salivating over shooting this all week so wear at least three bandannas and 18 necklaces, ok? k. Should be a fun time though, and Lissy is a-do-rable. Make sure you dance during “Ready for the floor” for me.
Now, since John Thornley is playing a show, and Ryan Wakeman is inevitably going to be at the show, there is NO Notoriety tonight but there are afterparty options. Namely:
- -The RNR jam moves to Jimmy Valentine’s where Lissy will DJ (now that Beatrice inn is temporarily closed, this may be a rare op) as well as Done to Death’s Chris Black (who also manages US Royalty)
and
- -As aforementioned Chris Burns holds the fort down @ ST.EX. Its been a whole 4 days since he’s DJed a party so don’t miss out.
I only tease because I love and I LOVE YOU ALL VERY MUCH.
other suggestions welcome in comments as per usuals.

April 8, 2009 at 1:43 pmhugs and kisses boo.
No house music tonight. Or even really disco for that matter. I packed nothing but LPs tonight from 1973-1984. Lots of rock, smooth yacht shit, outer space jazz funk, etc.
Time to let that music breathe. Hope folks will stop by for a drink, or five.
See you at Saint Ex!
