Providing Tuesday did not already get you, welcome to what is at this point turning into a regular Wednesday going out post. No wonder I am always too tired to go out on Fridays.
As a bonus, you just sent your taxes out.
And as a bonus to a bonus, it is my parents' 30th anniversary today which is, if you think about it, (in)directly related to BYT even existing in the first place, so everyone should celebrate. Or just drink to forget. That always works too.
So, lets observe the offerings carefully.
- As I always say-Beyond Downtempo is a good start.
- Alternatively-you can mix things up a little and start out at Notoriety (officially open @ 6!) then hop to somewhere else and then come back. Though that may be hard. So, you know, maybe not tempt faith.
- There is a great free movie @ The Library of Congress at 7pm about Don Ellis. This is Don Ellis playing "New Horizons". The image quality is shitty, but this isn't about the image quality.
- Also tonight, @ ESL there is a very special issue of the weekly Rocker's International featuring the special occasion of the release of Sleepy Wonder's new album. If you've seen Sleepy before, you know you may just NEED TO be there. (across the street @ Steve's Bar room, Mechanix is happening)
- Also tonight, YANN goddamn TIERSEN is making his US debut @ Maison Francaise. Asobi Seksu opens. IT IS SOLD OUT. As it should be. Who's going?
- Also tonight, Donny Hue, from Kora Records' finely curated stable of talent takes on DC9 (read our great feature on him here)
- Also tonight, THE AWESOME Woggles and Hall Monitors SHAKE THE BLACK CAT DOWN TO ITS CORE
- Also tonight, IPOD Jukebox is on, one week late.
- Also tonight, Felice Brothers are @ Birchmere
- Also tonight, you may need to give up on making it to everything, but you can always round back out to Chi-Cha where if you luck out you may enter JUST AS Anita Ekberg enters the Fontana di Trevi. As always, it is ALL ABOUT TIMING.
Other suggestions welcome.
Next week, we start from scratch.
God loves a cheerful giver.
