Brightest Young Things

Problem: you love comedy, but it’s hard to keep track of what’s going on every week.

Solution: We’ve taken our Bentzen Ball expertise and used it to round up all of the interesting comedy shows and national comedy news each week into a neat little package. Like a Bento Box. Or a pipe bomb. Named in honor of the movie that inspired Ollie Bentzen to laugh himself to death lo so many years ago.

First of all, Girls and Boys, your week in Comedy Shows:

Monday:

There's an Open Mic in the basement of Eleventh Street lounge which is all red pleather and brick and looks like a vampire coffee shop. To sign up for comedy open mic, email Lou at lgiglio@fbr.com [his actual email, not a link to a porn trojan].

Tuesday:

Solly's open mic: Still the #1 Weirdest Place to hear jokes in DC.

Wednesday:

Ugly Americans debuts from Comedy Central. It's like Dr. Katz with better animation and slightly more blood spurts.

Thursday:

Hot Broth in the Ballston Mall. Yes it's in a mall but something about the warm darkness of the tiny theater makes everything funnier, even if what's on is a ponytailed guy in a trench-coat doing a 'bit' about stalking his ex-girlfriend on Xbox Live.

Friday- Saturday

At the Drafthouse this weekend it's Rich Vos and Bonnie MacFarlane on the Husky Voice 2010 Tour! (Just kidding, Bonnie, you're a sweetheart...)

And @ 9pm on Friday there's a "Showcase" at Sabores Lounge in Cleavland Park. These guys seem chill but I can't find any info online for this semi-open mic night. I did find a sweet paper flier tho.

Sunday:

Catch up on Caprica Episodes 4-10 on demand. That show is seriously so fucking good. The avatars...THEY'RE ALIVE!

In other news:

Give up guys, there's never going to be an Arrested Development movie.

Jimmy Car has an annoying giggle.

Andy Richter explains it all about what went down at NBC while Kelly Ripa imitates a baby mouse.

Speaking of which, did you get your tickets? Probably not because you are broke.

Instead you have to watch Justine Bateman's sitcom filmed in Ikea, now picked up by CBS somehow.

There's going to be a sketch comedy movie produced by a Farrelly Brother. Fans of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes take note!

Every comedian deserves to be animated. Even Bentzen Ball's Kyle Kinane.

Someone should animate this nerd-off between Patton Oswald and John Hodgman on WFMU.

A brief history of premature ejaculation in movies, starting with the somewhat terrible looking new movie, She's Out Of My League.

Jimmy Kimmel reads Know Your Meme. Proof!

Coma jerk's adventures continue:

What Would Precious Roy Do?

BEST TWITTER OF THE WEEK:

steve agee (steveagee)

  1. Kate Winslet just said her kids are both "flamboyant" and "eccentric"." Translation - she's got gay kids. #oscars 5:25 PM Mar 7th

(or any of these actually)

And finally:

Get a sweet deal on VHS tapes here...SUCKERSSSSS!
