I am going to keep this even a little shorter than usual since my brain does not exist anymore and frankly, I don’t have time to find it right now.
So here it is in sort of facsimile form: the openings and parties worth checking out this weekend.

Friday
Nothing huge but a lot of cool going on:
+Dissident Display is hosting a closing party for their “Black rock city” exhibit with original music created by Osunlade played by Adrian Loving (6 to 10 pm).
+ definitely the must see this weekend is “Screams and Screens” opening at Civilian Art Projects which deals with new approaches to screen printing. Expect “vibrant colors and bold contrasts with multiple layers of patterns and screens intending to “pop” and “scream” at you” …..(7 to 9 pm with an afterparty at Comet starting at 10)

+and the horribly named but otherwise cool Plan B gallery is hosting receptions for two of their new (painting) shows.
Saturday
+ Crafty Bastards is going down in Silver Spring. If you do go and brave the insanity, make sure you at least make an afternoon of it and check out Vertigo at the AFI. Technicolor never looked so good.
some great photo shows:
+Gina Brocker’s wonderful, intimate photos are on display at Irvine Contemporary. (Reception is from 6 to 8.)

+ and Kenro Izu, “Bhutan: The Sacred Within” of haunting, black and white landscapes opens @ Addison Ripley Fine Art (reception from 5 to 7)

+the Bobby Fisher Memorial Building is closing. This is bad news, but at least they get to go out with a bang: Girlish ways opens with a party from 6 to 10 featuring a “a selection of twelve artists under the age of 35 who investigate how contemporary lifestyles affect and re-define the women of this generation”. More details here: http://www.artcadeforum.com/
+and finally Transformer presents the fifth installment of The Exercises, a unique peer and mentorship program for emerging artists, in E5: Rangefinder. There is an artist talk at 4 and a reception from 5 to 7.
Sunday
Go to the folklife festival.
The end.
