I was hoping to skip out of this one but there is a lot of stuff going on so I decided to recap it because making choices, as we all know, can be overwhelming.
Disclaimer:I am only including stuff I would consider teleporting myself to, if such was an option, with select flyers attached and links to more info, though other ideas are available on the handy right hand sidebar calendar you should use more often.
3 days of fun and frolic ahead:
THURSDAY
2 After work specials:
- Phillips Collection continues feeding into the DC dream of sophisticated museum parties (alcohol included) with the first of the five summer Thursdays series of Phillips After Hours
It starts at 5:30, ends at 8:30, full access to the collection is granted (On View: Diebenkorn in New Mexico | Brett Weston: Out of the Shadow, June 21–September 7, 2008, The Great American Epic: Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series, May 3–October 26, 2008) and the flyer explains the rest:
Bonus: if you go, you can be the one that next week says to all your friends: what, wait? you haven’t been to Phillips after hours yet?
Smugness is a great currency in DC.
- Alternatively, the National Portrait Gallery is hosting a cavalcade of Recognize! events, from a hip-hop happy hour to a movie about DJ Spooky to some talks to round it all out. Check out our exhibit report here
FRIDAY
As always, a big one. 4 Events, each with their own merits and coolness factors that should tip the scale depending on your preferences:
- Hillyer and Pinkline come together to celebrate the new issue of Barrelhouse (which we have written about before) with a Licence to Brawl rollergirl spectacular. Details below:

- Additionally, Civilian Art Project closes out their stone cold cool Screams and Screens show with a party oozing with everything a party should have: Scott and Ed from Velodrome DJing, Scott Allison, Pree, Ilya Monosov playing, you looking even more smug than you did on Thursday. Here are all the details in plain and blue:

- Not to be outdone National Museum for Women in The Arts is hosting a dance night (vintage photo booth included) tonight as well
AND
ON SATURDAY
Since you probably missed day 1 of Flik, go now, plus, stock up on rare books, records and fine vintage items to wear to next week’s art parties at the always terrific Listopad shopping party (this time @ Red Onion Books & Records)
GODSPEED

Thank you Svet. I love the Art Itinerary postings and I don’t think many people actually take advantage of it.
