Every girl (and boy) that loves Grey Gardens remember that first time they discovered it.
In my case, you're 13 and reading a magazine and you stumble upon this little reference about a documentary more amazing than any movie a mind could come up with: of Jackie Kennedy's relatives, Big Edie and Little Edie, living in a tarnished dream home in the Hamptons, a mother and a daughter, embodying the notion of paradise lost. And coming from a family of women who still wear caftans as house dresses and garden in their underwear well into their 70s, who insisted on calling me Little Svetlana even after I grew to be over a foot taller than my Aunt, Big Svetlana, I mean - NATURALLY, NATURALLY I had to go and get my skinny little hands on it that very second.
And then you watch the Maysles brother masterpiece and, if you are the kind of person they intended this movie for, you instantly can quote EVERYTHING: the tidbit about being a S-T-A-U-N-C-H woman, about "this being really, the best costume to wear for the day, and you can always take the skirt off and use it as a cape" and maybe you even sometimes say "No, I'm not ready; I have no makeup on... but things are getting better! ".
And then you grow up and you go to Halloween parties and you become instant friends with people who wear Little Edie costumes (true story) and still talk about it all the time.
And then, if you are that kind of people (which means you are MY kind of people) you also know that after the movie, Little Edie ran off and for one glorious week did a highly controversial one woman show @ New York's Reno Sweeney nightclub. Now, 20+ years later Ganymeade Arts brings you (a world premiere run of) a one man show of the one woman show that was After the Garden.
It all goes down every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for this weekend and next weekend at the storeroom of the wonderful Miss Pixie's on 14th street (I've been to the storeroom before to pick up some chairs, and if I ever saw a perfect location for this, then, THIS IS IT, and they refer to it as "The Backroom Palace") with the added bonus of late Saturday night screenings of the Movie itself and "The Beales of Grey Gardens" on the alternate.
Tickets are 25 bucks.
and all details can be found here:

Bonus:
the trailer for "will I love it? will i hate it? will I love to hate it?" HBO "Gray Gardens" movie which is about to air on April 18th.

God loves a cheerful giver.
Svetlana, are you going? I can't find a soul who is willing to part with the 25 dollars.
