First the local stuff
- Don't forget - the Argonaut's fundraiser is tonight at the Rock & Roll Hotel.
- Remember the Border's Books on 14th Street? Well, it's gone and the Clyde's Restaurant Group is turning it into a huge downtown restaurant.
- Mandalay, a well-known Burmese restaurant from Silver Spring is breaking ground at 9th and P Street. So awesome to have restaurants moving in that direction.
- Food Network Magazine names the best breakfasts in every state. Local nods go to Shirley’s Affair with Oscar at Miss Shirley’s Café in Baltimore and California Huevos Ranchero at Kuba Kuba in Richmond. DC gets recognized as a state, and Founding Farmer's gets recognized for their Fried Chicken, Eggs and Waffles.
And the round up
- Pepsi Strong - wait 15 seconds before opening so it doesn't explode in your face. Japan is amazing.
- Wasilla, Alaska's second claim to fame = Salmon flavored vodka.
- This 4th of July, Kobayashi will not be competing in the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest. Joey Chestnut pounds chest and prepares for another victory.
- Airline food is not only nasty, it's prepared in nasty kitchens complete with rodents and vermin. But really, when was the last time you got a meal on a plane?
- In a brilliant marketing move and one I full approve of. Vidalia Onions partner with the movie Shrek. Kids are demanding their parents buy and cook onions, and sales are through the roof.
- Great moments in Cookie Monster.
- Tom Colicchio gets hotter and hotter.
