With the Fall/Winter 2012 Ready-To-Wear collections in full swing, this week's edition of STYLE LICKS is dedicated completely to Fashion Week (Part I: New York) and the LOOKS that will likely inspire our winter wardrobes in the next six months. OR...sooner! Enjoy four looks from ten favorite designers, including favorites: Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Marc Jacobs, AND newcomers Creatures of the Wind. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR OUR ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHY PART 2 - tomorrow.
1. MICHAEL KORS: Americana-inspired "blanket plaids" herald in Fall with cozy cable-knit, fur and boots. A hunting we shall go! Notes of lace and drop waists imbue Kors 2012 collection with a certain retro grace.
2. SOPHIE THEALLET: Bold reds and mauves weave elegantly together in French designer Sophie Theallet's Fall RTW collection, with wall-paper inspired motifs spread across knits and feminine silks.
3. RODARTE: Kate and Laura Mulleavy capture a more sophisticated woman in their Fall/Winter 2012 RTW collection, with tailored womenswear that plays to "the Outback and aboriginal art." PLUS GO HERE to see beautiful images from previous collections.
4. Proenza Schouler: Designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez can do no wrong. Proenza Schouler brings strength to its collection, with structured jackets (that bring to mind Balenciaga), leather, and an elevated sportswear aesthetic. VERY COOL, guys.
5. MARC BY MARC JACOBS: HOT.
6. SUNO: CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists and design team Erin Beatty and Max Osterweis are focused on "wearability" this season. A favorite among the fashion industry (and me!), SUNO remains true to its energetic spirit & culturally diverse roots (New York/Kenya).
7. NARCISO RODRIGUEZ: Bold colors and structured silhouettes walked the runway on Tuesday. A strong + highly feminine collection that embraces COLOR and GRAPHICS for Fall. IN LOVE with the pointed-toe black boots btw.
9. ALTUZARRA: 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund winner Joseph Altuzarra blazes an adventurous trail for Fall 2012. Altuzarra chose Corto Maltese, the protagonist of an adult French comic from the sixties and seventies, as his starting point. "He was a sailor, his mom was a gypsy, and his dad was Venetian." A spicy recipe to say the least.
9. CAROLINE HARRERA: A classic.
10. CREATURES OF THE WIND: CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists Shane Gabier and Chris Peters ARE Creatures of the Wind. In touch with their ethereal name, Chicago design duo and fashion newcomers know how to create stunning pieces that leave you wanting more.
