Look, it's simple: Every week we'll be bringing you a Spotify playlist full of tunes plus all the information you can handle about the cool concerts to hit up this week. Don't say we never loved you.

VOLUME 5: Feb 6th - Feb. 12th
Click the above link for this week's playlist which features the young, the old (but still incredible) and the never-gunna-die (I'm looking at you, Thurston Moore).
- February 6 @ 9:30 Club -- THEOPHILUS LONDON First you should most definitely check out our interview with the man himself here. Did that? Good. Then just listen to the playlist. London takes the art of rapping and mixes it with contemporary vibes and musical styles to remain relevant -- unlike most. Plus he is a well dressed man. Sounds like: Tyler the Creator, Toro Y Moi, J Cole, Cults...
- February 6 @ Rams Head Live -- THIRD EYE BLIND w/US ROYALTY I'm not going to lie, I'm a fan of Third Eye Blind. What's not to love about 90's indie-rock especially when the lyrics are as intelligent as they are? Stephan Jenkins can do no wrong. And local favorites US Royalty are opening! Bummer this show is totally sold out. Check craigslist for tickets. You won't regret it. Sounds like: screaming with the top down during your teenage years; fleetwood mac
- February 6 @ Black Cat -- THURSTON MOORE w/ KURT VILE Super sold out, but who doesn't want to listen to Thurston croon and Kurt Vile break your heart on a daily basis? Honestly. Sounds like: heartbreak (both in song writing and if you didn't get tickets)
- February 7 @ Black Cat -- HAIL! HORNET & ZOROASTER Totally featuring members of Buzzoven, Weedeater, Alabama Thunderpussy, SourVein) Plus a screening of the film Slow Southern Steel! I mean a show and a movie? That's a deal to me. Sounds like: Outlaw Order, Rabies Caste; Jucifer, Tong
- February 7 @ 9:30 Club -- GEORGE CLINTON & THE PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC Legends never die and George Clinton is the perfect example of that mantra. You can't tell me you've never gotten down (at FATBACK no less) to his jams. Sounds like: Bootsy Collins, The Fatback Band, The Gap Band, Tom Tom Club
- February 8 @ 9:30 Club -- THE DARKNESS w/FOXY SHAZAM With lead singer Justin Hawkins out of rehab and supposedly in better shape than ever (if you saw that superbowl commercial last night + goatee you might be wondering like I am how true that is....) this is another SOLD OUT show you're probably banging your head against the desk for not getting tickets. Sounds like: Meat Loaf, Thin Lizzy, good old fashioned rock-n-roll; Bouncing Souls, Lagwagon
- February 8 @ Black Cat -- VERONICA FALLS With a debut album just released on Slumberland Records, a great ear for pop, and a love for the slanted worldview of Roky Erickson, the quirky Brits of Veronica Falls have the perfect shoegazer pedigree. Check out the show and see if you don't agree. Sounds like: Real Estate, Yuck, Zola Jesus
- February 9 @ DC9 -- ROYAL BATHS Featuring ex-members of Tea Elles and formally called The Baths, the Royal Baths are a band from San Francisco, CA that are in the same garage rock scene as bands like Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees, and The Fresh & Onlys. Unlike those bands, though, the Royal Baths contrast with sunny San Francisco and it’s sunny sounds and focus on a very dark and intense form of “stoner” psychedelia, whilst combining other, more melodic elements. Sounds like: The Velvet Underground (sometimes), Prince Rama
- February 9 @ U Street Music Hall -- GIGAMESH w/SUMMER CAMP If you check out Gigamesh's website and read his bio this is all you'll get: "Lover of science and sound. Multi-platinum selling producer. Several-time member of Hype Machine’s #1 position. Disc jockey for hire." But frankly that's all you need. His beats and tracks are infectious and definitely shouldn't be missed. As for Summer Camp? The hype is at an all-time high. You be the judge. Sounds like: Big/Bright, Wallpaper, Senor Stereo; Class Actress, Twin Shadow, Crocodiles
- February 11 @ Black Cat -- SHARON VAN ETTEN w/SHEARWATER Sharon Van Etten came to Brooklyn via Tennessee via Jersey. Along the way, she sang in choirs, rejected her school's music program, worked at an all-ages venue, trained as a sommelier and got a full time job at a record label. She also had a few bad experiences in relationships. More than a few. Her new album, Tramp, celebrates the unsteadiness of a life spent in flux. Lush and triumphant, the songwriting is assured and strident, incorporating vivid arrangements and instrumentation and showcasing an artist in full control of her powers. Sounds like: Wye Oak, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Destroyer
- February 11 @ DC9 -- 8 YEAR ANNIVERSARY w/STAR SLINGER "Williams' style combines the hyper soul sampling of Kanye West or Dipset producers Heatmakerz with a bubbling psychedelia reminiscent of J Dilla's spacier moments. In his hands, Deerhunter's 1960s-style lullaby "Helicopter" turns into the type of sliced-up head-nodder that Prefuse 73 used to offer." - Pitchfork Sounds like: The Knocks, Active Child, Starfucker
- February 11 @ The Hamilton -- IVAN NEVILLE'S DUMPSTAPHUNK Offspring with a direct lineage to their fathers in The Meters and The Neville Brothers, Dumpstaphunk is a recipe for creating a new standard for an entire genre. Ivan and Ian seem to play their instruments flawlessly, and the dirty funk resonates organically from their souls as the offspring and kin of the legendary New Orleans Neville Brothers family.. Sounds like: The Commodores, Bootsy Collins
- February 12 @ 9:30 Club -- DIE ANTWOORD I'm not really sure how one explains Die Antwoord.... but stay tuned for a super special interview with them done by Cale tomorrow. In the meantime heed my extremely high recommendation that this is the show of the week and you do not want to miss it. Sounds like: Major Lazer, Peaches, Public Enemy, Yelle
- February 12 @ Fillmore Silver Spring -- THE DEADMEAT TOUR: STEVE AOKI & DATSIK Want to dance your face off and be surrounded by semi-legal youngsters? That's what you'll get (or should expect) when Steve Aoki is on the decks. But don't get me wrong, that'd definitely not a bad thing. Sometimes you just need to sweat.it.out! Sounds like: The Bloody Beetroots, Uffie, Rusko; Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Glitch Mob
- February 12 @ Black Cat -- THE DUM DUM GIRLS w/WIDOWSPEAK Aren't we all just suckers for cute girls in leather jackets + awesome tights who can rock? Shame on you if you aren't. Sounds like: Crocodiles, Holly Go Lightly, The Black Lips; Pepper Rabbit, I Break Horses
- February 12 @ Red Palace -- THIS WILL DESTROY YOU Often abbreviated to TWDY, these guys hail from San Marcos Texas (hmm... just like another celestial+instrumental outfit we all know. Must be something in the water.....). They typically compose lengthy atmospheric instrumental pieces, featuring layers of effects-laden guitar and a heavy usage of dynamics plus their newest album, Tunnel Blanket (released in May 2011) debuted on Billboard's Heatseekers Album Chart at #25 -- pretty damn impressive. Sounds like: God Is An Astronaut, Caspian, Explosions in the Sky
- February 12 @ DC9 -- CATE LE BON Just in time for a good pre-Valentine's Day cry, Cate Le Bon writes songs with themes of heartbreak, "injecting a note of sadness into her deep, rolling voice." - Brooklyn Vegan. Bring tissues. Sounds like: Holly Miranda, Smoke Fairies
