H&C cofounders Ernest and Pranav
Last Saturday Hugh & Crye, with the help of Speakeasy DC and DECOY turned a Georgetown gallery into an amazing launch party space. The party had been twice delayed due to Snowpocalypse, so the smartly dressed and minded owners Ernest and Pranav postponed it all the way to late July. The crowd was a blend of snazzy dressers of all kinds.

This DECOY installation highlighted a box of what H&C refers to as "uglies," dress shirts that don't fit. You can get a %10 discount on a new shirt by donating your gently used ugly to Martha's Closet.
The Shirt
The obvious highlight of the H&C shirt are their six unique fits, so that just about any man will have a tailored fit in his shirt, even though it's off the rack. As Aineki put it, "It's likes how Maidenform makes half size bras." The first thing I noticed, however, when I walked up to a Hugh & Crye shirt was the fabric quality of the Egyptian Cotton they use. For the middling price point of $65 to $105, bang for your buck is more than assured. Upon further inspection, I admired their tall, well constructed collars with with pockets for collar stays, which are a piece of stiff plastic or metal that keep your shirt collar from wilting. The sleeve plackets, or the area of the shirt on your wrist and forearm, all appear to be standard button cuffs but many of the shirts are actually convertible to french cuffs (the kind you use cuff links for).
The shirt is constructed with a very British and discreet back pleat that flows into darts at the bottom of the shirt for a modern, fitted silhouette.
