BYT Empire

Brightest Young Things

As a pinnacle of BYT's love for all foods sold out of moving vehicles on the streets of DC, on October 7th and 8th (a week before the food truck legislation goes for a vote) we're partnering up with DCRA and DC Comission on the Arts and Humanities to throw DC's First Annual Curbside Cook-off.

The event will take place at the big convention center/art walk parking lot in Downtown DC and is aiming to bring together, for two days (lunch through happy hour) the best of DC's street food..

We're giving the people the power to decide who will participate in the festival (there are 20 spots) and on Wednesday at 9am we will announce how you can vote your favorites in (both food trucks and street carts in the area are eligible)-so watch this space.

We will be co-hosting the kick-off party for the voting process on Wednesday, September 15th with a happy hour event @ Chinatown Coffee Company (6 to 8, $3 (nice) beer specials). We hope to see you there.

In the meantime - get yourself acquianted with some of OUR food truck favorites via BYTEatDrink's very handy food truck twitter list.

GET EXCITED.

Why is this being held during the week instead of the weekend?

Should the contest be limited to vedors who actually cook the food in their truck or cart? I read that Fojol Brothers hired a chef or restaurant to make their food and they just deliver it to the masses. I'm sure other carts do the same but I would think that would give them an unfair advantage over those who actually cook in the small confined spaces of their trucks or carts.
