Hosted at the Affinity Lab’s new location at 9th and U, the night of music, food, and art auctions was brought together by The Monument Music and Arts Festival (coming Summer 2011) and Curating For A Cause’s Jackie Cantwell, with all proceeds benefiting Dreams For Kids DC. Whether attendees had intentions of doing some good or bidding on some fine art, the suggested donation of $8 wasn’t a bad deal considering the generous gift of 50 cases from PBR, cases of wine from Siema Wines, and cuisine from several of the restaurants dominating Clarendon at the moment: Liberty Tavern, Lyon Hall, O’Sullivans, Restaurant 3, Faccia Luna and Domaso Trattoria.
For the first couple of hours, patrons were invited to guzzle beers, sip wine, and stuff their faces with crispy pork belly while viewing the spoils of Ms. Cantwell’s efforts (the full catalog can be viewed here) which were eventually auctioned off. Several of DC’s own provided the musical backdrop including FatbackDC’s Philippe Chetrit, One Big Woo, and the ubiquitous Matt Hemerlein. By the end of the night, nearly $5000 in art had been sold, 600 PBR’s drank, and close to 300 attendees helped to make a tangible impact for a local organization.
Note: the silent auction is still going on, please contact Affinity Lab U St. at 202.332.1360 or Jackie Cantwell to setup an appointment. Lab hours are generally 11AM to 6PM M-F.
