I have to admit - I didn't think MIXTAPE still had the potential to blow me away. Sure, it's always great. But: it's always great. There's nothing to surprise me with.
Then they decided it was time to try out The Black Cat.
HOLY FUCK.
The first sign that it was awesome was the 200+ people in line outside when I arrived around 11:30. Never a good thing, but it wasn't too cold, the line moved fast, and everyone seemed happy. MIXTAPE usually has a line. But man: this was a LINE.
Second sign: what Black Cat was I in? I've been there for shows, I've been there for dance parties...it has never looked like this. First, I think Shea must have personally unscrewed the lightbulbs. Second, fog Fog FOG. Third, the Black Cat had sprouted quality club lighting like an adolescent lacrosse team discovering their newfound glistening pectorals. (Yes, I had a crush on the whole lacrosse team in high school.)
Fourth, let's just be honest, everyone was there. It was kinda overwhelming. But in a good way. A "do-it-again" way. C'mon, boys, don't let me down.
God loves a cheerful giver.
