Brightest Young Things

Disclaimer: This is not a style-guide. This is not about fashion. This is not even judgmental. This column is about people on DC’s streets. It’s about people who seem as if they put a thought or two into their outfits before leaving the house. It’s about people whose look is working for them, in their opinion

With College just starting, a new group of young people have entered or returned back to the DC area. Campus life at all universities is always buzzing and full of fashionable students. I decided to explore some of the campus's in the area to see what is in style for the Fall 2010 semester. My adventures have brought me to my own college, Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia (Ballston) as the destination on my outfit a day campus crawl!

Meet Sanaam!

Sanaam, 17, Fashion Merchandising Major

BYT: So Sanaam, where are you from originally and what made you chose to go to Marymount University?

Sanaam: I was born in Washington DC but I lived in Dubai for four years. I chose to go to Marymount because of it's fashion merchandising program. It's in an excellent area located right next to DC and very near to Maryland.

BYT: Well those are some good reasons, so what are your favorite fall trends and your one back to school must have?

Sanaam: My favorite fall trends would have to be high waisted wide leg pants, vests, flow-y blouses (usually worn tucked in) silk fabric and shearling jackets.  My top handle bag would have to be my back to school must have.

BYT: Lots of fall trends! So, what would your dream job be and how would you dress for it?

Sanaam: My dream job is to become a buyer or repersentative for a major retail store or for a specific country. My ideal outfit for that job would be a black blazer with a white button down shirt underneath tucked into high waisted flared black pants with a thin belt on the high waist and worn with black Christian Louboutin pumps and I would carry and over the shoulder bag.

BYT: Well that job seems possible with your major! So how would you describe the style of the students at Marymount University as a whole?

Sanaam: I would consider the students at Marymount to have a casual yet trendy look to themselves

BYT: Lastly, what brought you onto the Marymount shuttle this afternoon?:

Sanaam: To go to Phycology class at the Ballston campus.
