Brightest Young Things

Disclaimer: This is not a style-guide. This is not about fashion. This is not even judgmental. This column is about people on DC’s streets. It’s about people who seem as if they put a thought or two into their outfits before leaving the house. It’s about people whose look is working for them, in their opinion

With College just starting, a new group of young people have entered or returned back to the DC area. Campus life at all universities is always buzzing and full of fashionable students. I decided to explore some of the campus's in the area to see what is in style for the Fall 2010 semester. My adventures have brought me to my own college, Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia (Ballston) as this week's destination on my outfit a day campus crawl!

Meet Daniel

Daniel, 18, Fashion Design major

BYT: So Daniel, where are you originally from and what made you chose to go to Marymount University?

Daniel: I am from Ocean City, Maryland and I chose Marymount University because of its proximity to Washington DC, and because its the only University in the area that offers fashion design as a major

BYT: That seems logical, so what are some of your favorite fall trends and what is one of your fall fashion must haves?

Daniel: My favorite fall tends would have to be layering and comfortable vintage sweaters, and I had to have a pair of Creepers for this season

Sweatshirt; $5 - t-shirt store in Philly that has shut down

BYT: I couldn't agree more with the sweaters... Vintage lacoste cardigans are one of my favorite things! So what would be your dream job and how would you dress for it?

Daniel: My dream job would have to be being a designer for Slow & Steady Wins the Race. I'd wear a pair of SSWTR sunglasses at all times and their fantastic t-shirt that is made entirely of pearls.

Shoes; Cooperative for Urban Outfitters $20

Pants; Drop Crotch H&M $35

BYT: That would be a great job with what you are majoring in! So, how would you consider the style at Marymount University as a whole?

Daniel: Their are a select few I see on campus with great interesting style. It isn't exclusively an art/ design school however, so you'll see a fair amount of people wearing sweats or exercise gear.

for the last time...layering isn't a trend, it is something people do when they are cold.
