Disclaimer: This is not a style-guide. This is not about fashion. This is not even judgmental. This column is about people on DC’s streets. It’s about people who seem as if they put a thought or two into their outfits before leaving the house. It’s about people whose look is working for them, in their opinion.
Our adventures have led us to believe that there are cool kids everywhere in DC. As I explore DC and its surrounding neighborhoods, we have spotted some pretty unique looking youngsters that we can't help but stop. These are kids that have already developed/began to develop their own style and aren't afraid to experiment.
Let's play a game.

An energetic female hiding behind a pair of cute sunglasses!

BYT: Tell BYT what you look for when you are shopping?
Brittany: I really like stripes right now, and clothes with patterns. I also love tops that the shoulders flare out and anything with ruffles.
BYT: Well those are all really fun and fashionable right now. So what brought you to Chinatown today?
Brittany: To visit my friend from boarding school, Dottie.
BYT: Catching up with friends is always fun! So where are you visiting from?
Brittany: I live in New York City but I go to boarding school in Virginia.
BYT: Oh wow! New York city is notorious for fashion. Any major differences between the way people dress around here and in New York?
Brittany: I would consider DC to have more of a street style, some people get really creative with what they are wearing while in New York city I notice people don't really individualize their outfits, its more generic and high end.
BYT: Well that is quite the difference, which city's style do you prefer?
Brittany: Washington DC
BYT: So tell us about a bit what you are wearing.
Brittany: I got the shirt for $32 at American Apparel, and the jeans were $14 at Forever 21. The Belt was $50 and its Coach. My accessories are from allover the place, the elephant necklace I got for $5 at Forever 21. The chunky rock bracelet I purchased from H&M and the other bracelets came with a donation I gave to Invisible Children.

I was about to say: "Please stop going to Chinatown." But then I couldn't think of any good alternatives. AdMo maybe?
