Brightest Young Things

So, what are you doing on September 2nd? Would you like to be indulging in the finest cocktails, great food and those much-talked about grown-up floats The Gibson created this summer with the folks from Dolcezza?

Well, if you go to The Gibson's HAYMARKET RIOT SOCIAL-you can.

Tickets are $75 a pop (all you can eat, all you can drink, all you can...well, everything) but we have a pair to give away. Obviously, this is something you want.

To enter to win (we'll notify the winner by next Monday) come up with an ideal end of summer cocktail and a name for it.  Not only will you get two tix but Jonathan Harris, Gibson's bar manager, promised they could use your idea as one of the drinks at the party.

Deal?

DEAL.

Go now.

- Chill a cocktail glass
- Swirl dry vermouth around the glass and then empty
- In a mixer, combine 2.5oz vodka and .5 ounces wheat grass juice
- Shake with ice and strain in the cocktail glass
- A dash of orange bitters (optional)
- Garnish with lemon twist

Inspired to pay tribute to the summer by using the last of the summer gruits and having a hypothetical final lawn mowing. A fresh and natural taste that will probably be your last for another year. face-sad Dry, of course, since it is the end of the season.

Better Red Than Dead

2 oz. rye
3/4 oz. Campari
3/4 oz. orange juice
3 dashes mole bitters
lemon twist garnish

The Campari is for the bitterness of the struggle; the orange juice is for the sweetness of a fair wage; and the mole bitters is for so many of today's workers who have yet to receive one.

Aguacate frambuesa:
Ripe avocado - about 1/4 or less of a whole avocado
Mint leaves
Raspberry Puree
Pineapple Juice
Simple Syrup
White Rum

Muddle mint and avocado with simple syrup. Add white rum, pineapple juice. Shake with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
Drop a sinking float of raspberry puree in the center.

RE: Aguacate Frambuesa

The option also stands to serve over ice, no straining! Still with the sinking float of raspberry puree.

"Potpourri"

1 oz apricot liqueur (I prefer Choya umeshu)
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz applejack
1/4 oz Campari
1/4 oz St. Germain
1/4 oz creme de cassis
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 dash rose water

* Stir until chilled. Serve in a classic cocktail glass (~3 oz).
* If it's blazing hot out, shake well and serve in a small tumbler instead.

Packs the flavor of a punch with the power of an all-liquor line-up.

1/4 cucumber muddled or pureed
2 oz. Hendrick's Gin
Juice of 1 lime

Mix all ingredients together and pour over ice into a highball glass. Top with soda water.
