Brightest Young Things

Love juice come in many flavors. It depends on the kind of berry you're squeezing, the temperature outside and what you've fed said berry (never Ben's Chili). Most importantly, it depends on how you squeeze it. Our favorite juicer is the slow jam. Artists of all genres use music to express their love and their heart ache. And when you let tormented artist try and express a complex emotion you are gonna get a spectrum of music. Picking the right kind can be tricky.

Sometimes the berry needs to be coaxed with a teary soul confessional and sometimes a raspy country two-step will do the trick. You never know, but your stereo needs to be prepared for any circumstance at any time. So we've provided you with our favorite slow jams from 10 of our favorite genres.

Use these at your discretion or let us set the mood at Tender Loin tonight, our once a year tribute to lovelies.

ALSO AN UPDATE: TENDERLOIN IS FREEEEEEE TONIGHT.

Glam Rock

David Bowie & Marianne faithful - "I've Got You Babe"

Sweet Jesus, how fun must it have been to be 25, at the height of your career, singing with Marianne Faithful and coked out of your brains? There's something spooky and weird and romantic about this cover. Maybe not a bonafide drawer dropper, but kinky and pretty all the same.

Country

Townes van Zandt - "No Place to Fall"

If you look into your partner's eyes, play this song, and take em for a slow dance you are guaranteed sex. You just have to make it to the end without crying first…that'll ruin it.

Soul

Issac Hayes - A Few More Kisses to Go

Some of you will listen to this song and think, "I couldn't really play this while hooking up…she/he will think I'm being ridiculous." This is wrong. There will be an initial 5 seconds of raised eyebrows and possibly an "Are you kidding me?"…do not give up. The second the rhythm takes hold and the kisses start to match beat, it's over.

French Pop

Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg - "Je T'aime…Moi Non Plus"

Serge Gainsbourg is personally responsible for the earth's population surge in the late 60's. Some people claim it was better disease prevention and pre-natal care, I think the orgasm part in this song prompted a world wide humping epidemic.

Latin

Os Mutantes - "Baby"

Ok, so this is less "latin" than psychadelic rock, but it couldn't have been made anywhere but Brazil. Os Mutantes put that organ to work, conjuring the perfect sundowner-cocktail-in-your-hand-pre-sex soundtrack.

Indie

Brian Jones Townes massacre - David Bowie I Love You Since I Was Six

Sometimes the mood will call for an insane white guy professing his love to another insane white man. But if you set her on the couch, turn this on, unlace her Vans, lift up her horn rims and kiss her, she’ll liquefy in your hands.

R&B

R Kelly - Bump N Grind

“My minds telling me no but my body, my body, is telling me yes.” Now this is a tricky one. You can’t lead off with this one. But if this comes in once the lights are out and the course has been set, this will be a game changer. Its the perfect pace.

Classic Rock

Neil Young - Harvest Moon

This is probably the most romantic song ever written. Neil loves getting personal. Since we can’t all get this deep, let Neil do it for you. Let this one set the tone of the night. Maybe you start it as you are sitting down to the candle light dinner you just prepped.

Hip Hop

Methodman - All I Need

Methodman expresses it better than anyone. He breaks it all down for you, for her. And MJB is everyones love. This your psyche up song. Play it alone to get your head in the game. Get some good lyrics to use later. On second thought, one of the most romantic nights I have ever had was set to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.

Quiet Storm

Art Of Noise - Moments of Love

Now this is serious. This one is a powerful tool. Break glass only in emergencies. This will take you deep, quick. Good luck.

See you tonight, unless you don't make it out (wink wink).
