Brightest Young Things

Where we talk about stuff (happening in and around D.C.) we didn't write about but is still something you may care to get all riled about and comment on. So, without further ado - today, in other DC media sources:

  • Celebrate Chinese New Year in bang-up fashion with giant firecrackers, a parade, delicious food, etc. this Sunday. (via Prince of Petworth)

  • Photo enthusiasts unite: Annie Leibovitz has a new show at Smithsonian that will not feature faces. (via HuffPost DC)
  • Apparently the sweet-office spoils may not go to the victor--multiple White House sources are claiming that the Oval Office may be off-limits next year to whomever wins the Presidency. (via Washingtonian)
  • Watch out, Occupiers: starting at noon on Monday, McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza will fall under the National Park Service's strict no-camping enforcement. All signs of camping--tents, sleeping bags, storage containers, anything used to make a fire, etc.--must be removed or protestors will face citations and/or arrest. (via Washington Post)

  • And now, for a touch of the macabre: should D.C. Metro hide its suicides? At least one WMATA board member thinks so... (via TBD)
  • Red and white as the official D.C. cab color scheme--Mayor Vince Gray is FOR IT. (via DCist)
  • Over-the-counter meds just not cutting it anymore? The Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum can show you some 18th-century cures for what ails you, involving oh, just your typical everyday Dragon's Blood. (via HuffPost DC)
