Heading to Steely Dan tonight! I posted 16 Dan songs yesterday, so check them out here: http://www.brightestyoungthings.com/articles/i-love-steely-dan.htm.
I thought today I'd give Donald Fagen's solo work a little love. Here is I.G.Y., which as I mentioned yesterday, almost made the list. It's from Fagen's 1982 solo album The Nightfly. Check out this great little article on how it's the Freebird for pro audio guys, a song recorded so well that it is universally used to demonstrate or test high end audio systems: http://www.prosoundnetwork.com/default.aspx?tabid=69&EntryId=126.
And here we go compressing it down to an mp3 and playing it on computer speakers. I highly recommend picking up the DVD-Audio, which I'm listening to right now in full 5.1 multichannel surround sound, and liquid gold just oozed out of my ears. Oh wait, nevermind, it's out of print and will cost you like $60. sad face

God loves a cheerful giver.
"Who is the gaucho amigo?
Why is he standing in your spangle leather poncho with the studs that match your eyes?"
Seems someone has brought home a rough boy toy and created a domestic disturbance. Steely Dan relates depravity with a twinkle in the eye. Often funny, always smart, sometimes bitingly insightful, their lyrics may be the best to ever grace a recording studio. While not everyone's cup of tea, if you get it, they are second to none.
"No he can't sleep on the floor
What do you think I'm yelling for
I'll drop him near the freeway
Doesn't he have a home?"
