Brightest Young Things

HI I HATE THE 9os.  I was uncool and got picked on.  I like music from other decades better than the music in the 90s.  That being said...

Built to Spill are one of those bands that older hipsters like to chastise younger hipsters for not knowing about.  Just like even older hipsters chastised them about not knowing The Replacements.  It's like indie frat hazing.  Perfect From Now On came out in 1997, but I don't think I realized how wonderful (perfect?) it was until 2001 when my friend made me listen to it "for real this time".  The second track, I Would Hurt A Fly, floored me.  It was just so gut wrenching and beautiful and ominous, so raw yet perfectly executed, and then it just explodes in a frenzy of guitars and my nuts follow suit.  So yeah, go buy it if you don't already own it, like right now.

Well earlier this year, BTS frontman Doug Martsch and Brett Nelson re-recorded seven old songs as if they were 80s synth-pop tunes. No, really. It was called The Electronic Anthology Project. Maybe they hate the 90s too? My beloved I Would Hurt A Fly get's turned into a gloomy goth anthem, anagram-titled So here is What If Your Dull. It's not nearly as successful (and hilarious) as some of the others, so I don't feel too bad giving it away here. You can buy the rest at CD Baby.
