Hey everyone! This week's extended THANKSGIVING PARTY TIME BEST WEEKEND BETS are, as always, hand selected from BYT ALL CITY and carefully calibrated for maximum fun and minimum stress, and will be punctuated with inspirational images of BUFFALO 66, because no matter how dysfunctional your holiday weekend is, it's isn't THIS bad (we hope).
A COUPLE OF PSAs before we start:
- Read our FALL GUIDES (FILMS, COMEDY, LIVE MUSIC,RECORDED MUSIC, FOOD, THEATRE, ARTS & STYLE)! We've worked incredibly hard to prep you for a chilly season of AMAZING chances to get the most of our of fair capital city.
- BYT UPCOMING EVENTS ARE: our SUPER AWESOME HOLIDAY PARTY @ KENNEDY CENTER IS ON DECEMBER 9TH (TICKETS ARE ONLY $5 SO GET THEM NOW) + keep your eyes peeled for our NYE ANNOUNCEMENT VERY SOON.
- Read up on food here, our amazing movie reviews are here, and as always, GAY Best Weekend Bets are coming right up.
DISCLAIMER: this weekend is about gluttony and partying. I won't even pretend like anyone cares about cultural enlightenment right about now. Cool? Cool.
WEDNESDAY
- your favorite bartenders+flaming drinks+heavy metal=SPIRITS IN BLACK @ American Ice Co. = a great way to ruin your chances of being nice to anyone tomorrow. Highly recommended.
- Holy Ghost and Jessica 6 are @ 930 Club ringing in the holiday weekend right. Read our interview with those nice kids @ Holy Ghost! here.
- FAMILY FEUD: Chris Burns+Sam Burns team up for Father&Son @ Lost Society and Nouveau Riche is joined by some of BYT's favorite characters about town for a FAMILY FEUD rager @ U Street Music Hall. Blessedly-those two are just a couple of blocks apart so you can keep shuttling between them.
- looking for something a teeny bit more low key but heart-breakingly beautiful? Sigur Ros' INNI is showing for one night only @ AFI Silver
- BONUS: Z-Burger’s Tenleytown location in D.C. and their White Marsh location in Maryland are offering free turkey burger to anyone who mentions “Gobble, Gobble,” or does their best turkey impression at the cashier. The offer is limited to one per customer. 11am -3pm
- + other stuff
THURSDAY
- so-we're all basically eating and napping in between eating all day, right?
- and drinking home made delicious fall cocktails? (some suggestions for recipes here and here)
- and watching movies about families that are more effed up than our own?
- anything else?
- 2 solid gold dance options: MOOMBAHTON MASSIVE/Nadastrom EP release is @ U Hall and Mis-Adventures of Hi-Ball and Eight-Ball are @ DC9.
- + other stuff
FRIDAY
- I recommend NOT SHOPPING. However-if you must, at least stay refreshed while you're at it. SWEETGREEN is offering free yogurt at all their locations today. Text SWEETGREEN to 22828 to redeem.
- After you've done fighting the crowds in Georgetown for that last widelegged jean on sale @ Madewell, stop by Kennedy Center's Millenium stage for a completely free and bound to be supremely adorbale Nellie Mackaye show at 5pm. Now, that's what we call value.
- or - take your collective family to Strathmore to relive Abbey Road.
- after that-it's probably best to work off your Turkey calories by excessive dancing: ALL THINGS GO is presenting RAD TURKEY @ BOURBON, the always solid BEAT CITY is @ CHIEF IKE's, Modern world is @ Black Cat and Becky's 1 year anniversary jam is @ RNR Hotel.
- + BLACK FRIDAY themed burlesque @ Red Palace. Nothing not to love.
- + other stuff
SATURDAY
- FALL MASSIVE brings everyone from DIPLO to Martin Solveig to .Armand van Helden to.. God only knows who else to RFK Stadium
- one of BYT's all time favorite bands THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS is playing 930 club
- QUE SERA has a November harvest editions @ Napoleon
- two of DC's longest standing dance nights are tonight, perfect for hanging out with people you've known for way too long to not dance silly in front of: BLISS is something to ALWAYS be thankful for @ U Street Music Hall and MOUSETRAP is @ Black Cat
- there are screenings of BOTH "Wizard of OZ" and "The Sound of Music" @ AFI (plus, My Week with Marilyn, HUGO AND The Muppets all opened this week-keep an eye out here for our reviews)
- BONUS: over at Arena Stage, they're stepping up their party game starting today through December 4th they're running a Pay What You Can Toga opp through a slew of their previews for YOU, NERO AND on top of that for the whole run there will be alcohol and drinks allowed into the theater (a first in the Mead Center!!). Possibly the best deal of all, there will be $2 PBR offered outside of the theater entrances to make it even easier to party in the theater. Fine print for the PWYC offer: Cash Only. Limit two tickets per person wearing toga. Available three hours prior to show time at the box office (1101 6th St. SW). Subject to availability. $2 PBR also cash only.
SUNDAY
- I don't know about you-but I'll just want to curl up in a fetal position and nap all by my lonesome with no food or drink in sight. (potentially watching movies ABOUT food may be an option)
- or--I guess if you're a metal fan, it's officially your Christmas-come-early-on-Thanksgiving-weekend since MASTODON is @ 930 club.
- + other stuff
REMEMBER: THERE ARE A BAJILLION OTHER THINGS TO DO LISTED IN BYT ALL CITY, so use it (to both post your events and search for them) and if you think we may have missed something, comment away--you know you want to.
