Transformer kicked off their 2010 season with a collaboration between artists Jessica Cebra and Zach Storm and Septime Webre, The Washington Ballet, and the Washington Ballet studio Company, in what has been deemed by press thus far, as the biggest art eye candy performance piece of the year thus far (and yes, we know it is only a couple of weeks in for 2010)
On Saturday, before the official reception for the show, the inside of the (teeny) Transformer space was transformed (ahme) into a virtual snow globe, with Cebra and Storm covering the space in their handmade ice, creating a miniature mountain range with with trees, crystals and snow balls suspended in flight throughout it, and 7 dancers inside reproducing the experience of a snow globe shake and settling through dancing to everything from Peter Bjorn and John to Kraftwerk for the audience that gathered outside to watch.
Snow Globe will be on at Transformer until Feb. 20th. Another art-ballet performance is scheduled for Feb. 6th at the National Museum Of African Art, where members of The Washington Ballet will perform a piece inspired by the Yinka Shonibare MBE exhibit. Exhibition hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 1-7pm and by appointment.
