Thing #34 to check off my list: I shook Richard Kern’s hand. And he shook it back.
The “Evil Cameraman” was decidedly un-evil last night as he stopped by Modernist Society for a drink or two and some conversation. (check out our preview of his work here). In fact when Jason opened up the talk with:
“Well, I remember seeing your photos and then meeting you and the thing that struck me the most was how nice and normal you were” - we all just nodded in agreement.
The house was full with: BYT photo staff (Joel, Bao and Page, all in full photo fan mode), DC’s fashion girls (both Listopad and Project Beltway were in the house),Angela Valdez, who wrote that infamous LNS City Paper story, Ian Svenonius, Chris Richards, and of course, Liz Glover, Wonkette camera in hand going for the gutteral (”So, do you sleep with ALL your models?).
Topics included: Dischord, Glam girls, running away from North Carolina, damaged women and perfectly deadpan answers to even the most drunkenly questionable questions (SCREAM from the back of the room:”So, do you charge extra for dildos in the butt?” CALM answer from the front: “Actually, haven’t done any of those in a while”)
So you know you wish you were there.

that sandwich tastes like magic.

but the free whiskey was good
and the food was out of this world
had the Bourbon Decker steak sandwich
never thought i’d be a fan of bar-b-q and smoked gouda
but it was amazing
and they have the most gourmet of mac-n-cheeses
