Its a big big weekend ahead.
I hope everyone has plenty of trail mix/aderall/stamina/conversation topics to last you through what seems to be a marathon of people and art watching. And freezing.
But first, Artomatic is around the corner, and if you want to be part of it now is the time.
Ok, so…day by day through the weekend (click on links for all your details):
Thursday
Hirshhorn kicks into their big weekend with an Andy Warhol lecture which is to accompany their screening of “Sleep” on Sunday.
and, not to be outdone
Smithsonian American art museum screens Dan Graham’s Rock my Religion at 6pm
On top of that, Pecha Kucha, and its “20 artists, 20 images, 20 seconds” concept is back in the District for the 4th time and this time with a Going Green Theme, and a super cool location at the 11th street Lofts. You have to RSVP, so, do that.

paintings by Mindy Weisel exhibit opening @ Prada Gallery
Friday
So, I don’t know who’s in charge of scheduling the Hirshhorn after hours (actually, I do, but still) planning an after hours on the same day that First Fridays at the Galleries are is a disaster waiting to happen.
The following can and probably will go on:
-people will have to choose
-people will choose not to choose
-people will go out straight after work, go to galleries, roll already tipsy into Hirshhorn and then…then, God help the permanent collection.
In any case before you head to After Hours (and if you don’t have tickets, get them now or get there early as it sells out every time) we recommend the following art parties:
- Brazilian Printmakers+Party+DJ Neville C at Hillyer Art Space = fun.
-Floating Faces by Lucy Hogg opening @ FlashPoint Gallery
-What seems like a pretty cool bronze sculpture show at Foundry
and the always great Meat Market gallery has not one but two show openings tonight.
I hope everyone is wearing comfortable shoes and has their seatbelts fastened.
Because this is going to be a bumpy night.
Saturday
Are you still alive?
And still want more?
Well, GOOD! Because there is more.
Midday (or to be more precise, at 2) stop by Transformer to see Hatnim Lee Speak. If you went to the opening you know how terrific her show is, so pick her brain before she flees for New York again next week.
There is a number of exhibits opening tonight (check out the calendar, Muses and Heroes at Irvine Contemporary seem the most interesting to me) but the big mama-jamma of the night is Art Whino’s Foox Opening at their New Harbor Location. 6 pm till Midnight.
Sunday
There is a pretty cool Brooklyn art/lifestyle/fashion party at The Muse Annex at 1pm but if that is not your cup of tea….
Remember how I kicked off Thursday with Andy?
Well, lets wrap up the weekend with him.
Hirshhorn is hosting a (wait for it) 5 hour screening of his ode to his lover John Giorno (called “Sleep”) and this is something you should either take your best friend or your worst enemy to.
And possibly try to sneak some booze in.
Should make things extra spicy.
No, but seriously, this is a rare chance to see this print on the big screen, so providing you have 5 hours to spare, spare them here.

Ok, and good luck.
