Adam De Boer dresses more like a 19th century narrative writer than a 21st century narrative painter. In his corner studio at Goldleaf, De Boer wears immaculate calfskin slippers and a sweater lined with sheepskin rather than a paint splattered paper thin tourist tee shirt one would expect of an artist in his early 20s.
De Boer has worked in this space since the beginning of summer. It's a trade up from his Columbia Heights group home, where his bedroom doubled as his studio and works sat drying in the hallway.
His works are focused on social ritual and emerging sexuality executed with the sincerity and nostalgia particular to those entering their "mid to late 20s". With these themes, being surrounded by the Goldleaf community of young artists at work and play couldn't be more appropriate.
