(F)Art Itinerary

(F)Art Itinerary

January 18, 2008 by Svetlana

While this isn’t one of the big opening weekends (check out Andrea’s coverage of last week’s 14th street shows here) there is still plenty to keep you entertained. If art is something you find entertaining, that is.

Friday

Today is the big day. In Alexandria, Art Whino is holding its first opening of 08: J.Coleman’s “A dream remembered” so come for art, live painting, dancing and more. Starts at 6, goes on till midnight. No one does it better than them.

In the meantime in our fair District, DCAC is holding their Paintings+Printworks opening at 7, and Gala Hispanic Theater is hosting a night of local film screenings. Free and at 8. Details here: DCServed

Saturday

The Big Event on Saturday is hands down The DC Counter Culture Festival at Dr.Dremo’s which features comics, clothing, music performances (check out our interview with Schaeffer the Dark Lord interview here) and a freakish sideshow.
4 pm till close.
I am excited for this, though the fact that this was Daily Candy’s weekend pick makes me feel not too counter-culture about it.
BONUS: It is also the last weekend EVER at Dr. Dremo’s, so you should stop by.

And at night, party among art.

Tuesday

Street art, live painting, music, dancing: Kelly Towles and J.Coleman (who also had his own opening at Art Whino on Friday) are doing an art party at the Cat. And you should come.

Plus, if Ansel Adams is more your cup-o-tea than street art is there is a book signing/lecture about the landscape photography great at the Corcoran that same night.

Bonus

National Gallery of Art and Freer & Sackler Galleries are both hosting a bevvy of free movies this weekend. CHECK THE CALENDAR.

Oh and, if I forgot something, and I probably did because no one is all knowing, please leave a comment.
Go now.
