Art Itinerary

Art Itinerary

February 21, 2008 by Svetlana Send to a Friend Send to a Friend

So, I am going to do the art itinerary a day ahead this week, mainly because there is a lot of stuff going down on Thursday (today) so, you may as well catch up.

First, as always friendly reminders of: butterflies, orchids, this upcoming week being your last chance to see the jeremy blake exhibit, hip hop portraiture and the still ongoing warm up to a museum program

Phew!
Got all that?
Ok!

Now, onto the weekend:

THURSDAY

The Academy Award Nominee series continues at the National Archives but if gallery openings are more your thing, head over to The DCJCC for “Lattitudes”, an exhibit dealing with the lighthearted topic of artists’ interpretations of mapping Israel and Palestine.
For photo fans I recommend trekking out to Arligton for the Photo 08 reception and award ceremony, celebrating the photographers of our beloved tri-state Area, and over in Georgetown glass blowing fans finally get their due.
In terms of afterparties both Laced at Cue Bar and Bohemian Grove with Ian Svenonius at Bourbon seem like the kind of places where you’ll want to see and be seen.

onto

FRIDAY

Art Whino is hosting a party for the Solo Exhibit at JoKa and if their previous events are anything to go by, it should be a good one.
The political (And pacifist) side of art raises its multi-disciplinary head at PEACE! NOW exhibit opening at The Warehouse and DCAC hosts and Opening of Lisa McCarty’s Astral Bodies, if you are in the mood for a more dreamy set-up.

Amidst all the openings, you may as well stop by a closing @ Hillyer, just for the sake of cosmic balance.

which brings us to

SATURDAY

with its Oscar nominated movies for free bonanza, and a revisit to “When Harlem Came to Paris” (a night of cabaret, art, film and cocktails) at Alliance Francaise, as well as the reception for the first ever exhibit of Akemi Maegawa Invisible Inc at Irvine Contemporary

and

SUNDAY’S

definite “bound-to-be-packed” event of the week though is the screening of “Wild Style” at the National Portrait Gallery at 7pm, with director Charlie Ahearn in person. (all part of the Recognize! Exhibit). For some homework, check out our coverage of the Wild Style show last fall @ Dissident Display

PLAN ACCORDINGLY
