Lexie Moreland, who has taken some of the most beautiful photos we've ever run on BYT has an exhibit opening at Dahlak tonight at 7. Consider this an appetizer-ed.
As I lounged on a lounger at the Georgetown Rec Center in oh-say, mid-July, I so gladly penciled my way onto a narrative portrait workshop roster upon skimming a photo-nerd mag declaring it's greatness, whilst ignoring an oldie hawn creep yelping that, "I was needed in the pool". I knew it was time to skip town for a sec. Taught by the super-likes of genius photog' Amy Arbus, it was held at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Mass.
Once August edged itself into my peripherality, I put my lovely Canadian solipsister Morgan into the car with me, fled to Cape Cod, and upon class assignment, befriended a young man named Adam, who kindly topped off my and Morgan's shared gin and soda at the Post Office Cafe. It was, so awesome, too fleeting.
Come with me.
God loves a cheerful giver.

I'm excited to see Lexie's photos somewhere other than my computer screen.
so. super. excited.
These are totally retarded! Stop wasting film childe!

the pics are pretty cool but you kinda write like an old pothead southern lady.
Lexie is truly one of my favorite photographers and it goes without saying that this will be a wonderful show tonight. Be there.
what's a childe?
A childe is "the eldest son of a nobleman who had not yet attained knighthood"
Which doesn't make sense here. It does make sense if the commenter was saying "child" in a condescending manner and just mispelled the word, which is always funny.
Or perhaps they were trying to write in the old negro vernacular of writers like Faulkner or Joel Chandler Harris, but they'd still be wrong, because it is written as "chile" c.f. Martha and the Vandellas single "Honey chile".
Kevin,

Thanks for the heads up! By the way, I googled Dahlak - is this a restaurant? I don't get it. They are a ethiopian/eirettrean restaurant and a venue of sorts. I have also searched Dahlak on DCist.com and it looks like the local band Fever has played there a few times.
Is this place new? I have lived here for a few years (NW DC) and I have NEVER heard of this place. How often do they have these art shows?
Anyways, Lexie - - - I have checked out your flicker stuff---great photography! I am going to try and make it out tonight - assuming I can find this place

I think this is the 2nd or 3rd art show at Dahlak.
Shows and dance nights have been hapening there for a while now.
All events are neatly listed on the event calendar.
a couple of the shots are really nice.
I need a fucking cigarette. It's been 36 hours.
I would go tonight Lex, but if I did I'd pass by a bar. If I passed by a bar I'd have a drink, if I had a drink I'd want a cigarette. I want a cigarette now but if I had a drink I'd have to have one.
So sorry. I also just ran like, a block or something. I barely made it. I used to run 10 miles before 7 am. Words of wisdom kids, if you smoke, at least continue exercising, don't just give it up. There's a fo' shizzle PSA.
poor michael. have you tried everything already?
Nope. Never tried anything, including quitting. I just decided Monday would be my last day smoking and that's that.
