This past weekend was one of those Saturdays where everyone heads out to 1515 14th street to see some art, and be seen.
Adamson Gallery held an extended viewing of their Chuck Close exhibit, G Fine Art hosted the opening for Linn Meyers’ “No Time Like the Present” (which we highly recommend, with its meticulously unsettling precision and amazing control of composition) and whose work was recently acquired (along with G Fine Arts’ previous show’s Ian Whitmore) by the Corcoran.
One floor up Hemphill had 2 openings: James Huckenpahler’s “Mindless Pleasures” (which basically amounted, in our opinion, to a computer generated and therefore less impactful version of Meyers’ work) and David Byrne’s “Furnishing the Self”, a series of rather ingenious and almost Koons-y upholstery and furniture themed installations/textile works.
Kathryn Cornelius held her first private gallery exhibit at The Curator’s Office.
We went, we saw and Chris Chen (of furcafe.com) was kind enough to shoot the mis-en-scene.
I adore that woman in the black hat and red scarf. So art-gallery chic!
November 5, 2007 at 4:19 pmI KNOW!
I secretly hope that is me 60 years from now.
(my ideal graceful aging progression going something like this:
now-Sigourney Weaver-Charlotte Rampling- Vanessa Redgrave- this lady)
I totally plan to skip out on 40s altogether and go straight for the grande dame age.
November 5, 2007 at 4:23 pmI was hoping someone snapped a photo of a girl with very very very long hair. She could have been an art exhibit by herself.
November 5, 2007 at 5:26 pmSvetlana - I’d add Jane Alexander to your aging gracefully list. LOVE her. Nice art feature too!
November 6, 2007 at 8:57 ami would add my top 3:
Angelica Houston, Jane Seymour, and Susan Sarandon
i’m sure i can think of more later
